Effective date: March 24, 2026
ReReader does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. All data remains on your device under your control.
ReReader ("the app") is a vision screening application for Android. It is designed with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data the app handles, how it is stored, and your rights regarding that data.
ReReader does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Specifically:
The app stores the following data locally on your device:
This data is stored using Android's standard on-device storage (Room database and DataStore preferences). It is never transmitted to any server.
Cloud backup is explicitly disabled in the app's configuration. Your test results and profile data are excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup. When transferring to a new device via Android's device-to-device transfer feature, your profiles, test results, and preferences may be included. This transfer is handled entirely by Android's built-in migration system and does not involve any external servers controlled by ReReader.
You may choose to export your data using the app's built-in export feature. Exported files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a password you provide. You are responsible for storing exported backup files securely. When you import data, it is decrypted locally on your device.
Certain test screens (distance setup and eye cover instructions) offer an optional text-to-speech feature using your device's built-in TTS engine. Depending on your device and TTS configuration, this may connect to an online service (such as Google Text-to-Speech) to generate audio. ReReader does not control or receive any data from these TTS services. No personal or test data is sent — only the on-screen instruction text is spoken aloud.
The app contains affiliate links to eyeglass retailers (currently Zenni Optical) on certain test result screens. When you tap an affiliate link, your device's web browser opens the retailer's website. If you make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
No personal data, test results, or device identifiers are shared with affiliate partners. The affiliate link is one-way: it takes you to the retailer's site, but no information about you is sent from the app. Once you leave the app, the retailer's own privacy policy applies.
The app contains optional links to external websites, including a donation page hosted by Stripe. Tapping these links opens your device's web browser. When you visit the Stripe donation page, Stripe may collect standard information such as your IP address and device identifiers in accordance with their own privacy policy. ReReader does not share any user data with Stripe or receive any information back. ReReader has no control over the privacy practices of external sites.
ReReader does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not require or store any information that could identify a specific individual. Profile names are stored locally on-device only.
You have full control over your data:
ReReader requests no device permissions. It does not access your camera, microphone, location, contacts, files, or any other system resource beyond its own on-device storage.
If this policy is updated, the effective date at the top will be revised. Since the app does not collect any data or communicate with external servers, changes to this policy are expected to be infrequent.
ReReader is a guidance tool to help you find approximate reading glasses strength. This app is NOT a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Results are approximate and should not replace a professional eye examination. This app cannot detect eye diseases, glaucoma, cataracts, or other vision problems. For accurate prescriptions and eye health assessments, please consult a licensed eye care professional.
